Petitioning the SEC Directly
The Securities and Exchange Comission has the stated mission to protect investors, to maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

Investors and market participants have the ability and the right to directly petition the Commission to issue, amend or repeal a rule of general application.

These petitions can be submitted individually or as a group, will be published for public review online, and can be submitted either anonymously or with personal information included.
How can I submit a Petition?
First, Petitions may be submitted via electronic mail to Secretarys-Office@SEC.GOV or via physical mail.

Second, Petitions must contain the text or substance of any proposed rule or amendment or specify the rule or portion of a rule requested to be repealed.

Third, Persons submitting petitions must also include a statement of their interest and/or reasons for requesting Commission action.

On the SEC webpage detailing petition instructions the directory for prior approved petitions can also be found. You can review how other advocates approached the language requirements when building their own petitions for submission.
Why should I submit a Petition?
If you feel there is an aspect of the market today which is not operating in your interest as an investor, it is your right and your duty to share that perspective!

Submitting a petition which will be documented publicly by the SEC will provide a citable resource not only for your own pursuits, but for the pursuits of others.
